(Wilmington, Delaware-AP) -- Oklahoma Congressman J.C. Watts spoke today to more than 100 Republicans in Wilmington, urging them to work harder on the presidential race -- as well Delaware's congressional race.
Watts says the Republican Congress -- not the Clinton-Gore administration -- should be credited for paying down the national debt.
He also said it was Republicans in Congress who pushed through welfare reform.
Watts is a leader in the House and a nationally recognized figure in conservative circles for his interests in urban renewal and church-based social policy.
Watts says the Republican majority in the House of Representatives is slim. He urged Delaware to return its lone congressman, Republican Mike Castle, who's facing an election challenge from Democrat Mike Miller.
