LOS ANGELES (AP) â€” Paul Anka's wife has filed for legal separation, claiming irreconcilable differences after more than 37 years of marriage.

In the petition filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Anne Anka asked for an unspecified amount of spousal support.

The singer married the former model Feb. 16, 1963, and they separated on Sept. 28, according to court papers.

Paul Bloch, Paul Anka's publicist, said the separation was ``very amicable.''

``They remain the best of friends and they're all going to be together on Thanksgiving,'' he said.

The couple has five daughters. It was their births that inspired his one controversial song, ``Having My Baby,'' which made it to No. 1 in the 1970s despite feminist protestations.

The former teen idol, whose career spans more than four decades, has written hundreds of songs, including Frank Sinatra's ``My Way'' and the theme song for Johnny Carson's ``Tonight Show.''
