GORDON, Neb. (AP) — Ted Turner is donating $3,500 in gratitude to fire departments that fought blazes on his ranch in July and September.
The CNN founder gave $500 to the Gordon Volunteer Fire Department after a wildfire in July burned about 5,000 acres of his land. Fire departments in Rushville and Merriman will receive identical sums.
Russ Miller, who manages Turner's ranches from Bozeman, Mont., said Turner will also give $1,000 each to the Gordon and Merriman fire departments for helping fight a second blaze in September that burned about 14,000 acres.
Miller said Turner also provided gasoline and diesel fuel to firefighters as they fought that blaze.
Turner is one of the nation's largest landowners, with holdings across the West. Ranchers often donate money or goods after a large fire.
