(Washington-AP) -- An Oklahoma congressman says women will die from using the so-called abortion pill approved this week by the U-S Food and Drug Administration Republican Representative Tom Coburn says quote: "We are going to see a significant amount of deaths associated with this."
Other lawmakers dismiss such statements, saying critics of the F-D-A's decision are driven by their desire to end legal abortion.
Coburn, a practicing physician, says there aren't enough precautions built in the F-D-A's decision. He says he will introduce legislation next week requiring more protections.
Those protections would include limiting distribution of the drug to licensed physicians who are qualified to handle complications, who are authorized to perform surgical abortions and who are certified for ultrasound dating of pregnancies.
