(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The United Way of Oklahoma City is telling Oklahoma City-based charity Feed the Children to stop using its name in fund-raising efforts.
The Daily Oklahoman reports in a copyrighted story that local United Way president Tom Brown sent a letter to Feed the Children founder, Larry Jones.
In that letter, Brown says association with Feed the Children isn't consistent with United Way's reputation for fiscal openness and accountability.
Jones says he's been out of town didn't know that any information was being disseminated concerning United Way.
Brown says he received calls from two companies which said a Feed the Children employee told them that donors to the company's United Way campaign could designate their gifts to Feed the Children.
Brown says United Way will not accept and pass on contributions designated for Feed the Children.
Feed the Children's fund-raising tactics came under national criticism last year after a Tennessee television station reported allegations of employee theft from a Feed the Children warehouse in Nashville, Tennessee.
