A number of wildfires are searing the Oklahoma landscape, while firefighters work frantically to keep them in check. Just northwest of the city, two separate fires burned acres of brush and pasture. Firefighters beat back the flames that were threatening several buildings.
One of the strongest fires in this area was about a mile from Tulsa's Chouteau Elementary earlier this afternoon.
Authorities have evacuated 330 students from the school because of an advancing grass fire.
They're being taken to Zeigler Park just south of the school.
Ashes from the fire were blowing on to the school grounds and that's what prompted the principal to evacuate the school.
He says he didn't want to take any chances that the fire might reach the school while students were in classes.
Buses came and took the students to Zielger Park which is about a mile from the school. Parents were called from the park to come and pick up their children.
