(Tulsa-AP) -- Oklahoma football fans hoping to make a nostalgic railroad trip to the O-U-Texas game in Dallas will have to wait at least another year.

Mary Jennings is a spokeswoman for Amtrak. Jennings says the timing wasn't right to do meet the request of the University of Oklahoma Alumni Association this year.

The Heartland Flyer runs between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, but Jennings said Amtrak would have run its special train to Union Station in Dallas.

The problem was that passengers would have been left a long way from the hotels where O-U fans are scheduled to stay and additional transportation would have been required.

A special train made the annual trip from Oklahoma City to the Texas State Fairgrounds in Dallas for the game until Oklahoma lost its passenger train service about 20 years ago.

It was reinstated last year.

Jennings said Amtrak still is interested in bringing back the special train trip to the big game in Dallas.
