Tulsa to use Smith in 'bandit' position

(Tulsa-AP) -- Tulsa redshirt freshman Chad Smith has a new position.

He'll be the Tulsa Golden Hurricane's new bandit. The position isn't quite a cornerback nor is it a linebacker.

Smith says he'll get to do a bit of everything in the position.

He played free safety, linebacker and strong safety during his all-district career at Arlington, Texas, High School and cornerback during his redshirt year at Tulsa.

Tulsa uses the bandit position like outside linebackers who crowd the line of scrimmage and confuse the quarterback by being able to blitz, play the run or drop into coverage.
