Two burglary suspects run through a Tulsa elementary school during an afternoon chase Tuesday.

Police arrested one man before he reached Jackson Elementary in North Tulsa, but the other two suspects reached the school and ran through it in an effort to elude police.

About 400 students were inside the school when the suspects ran inside during a lunch break at around 12:30 in the afternoon. Some fifth graders were already at recess, but others were lined up at the door that the two suspects ran through.

One teacher says one of the men pushed one of her students as they came through the door and said "we're being chased." The man ran through the school.

One suspect was apprehended when he came out the front door. The other was still at large as of 5:00 p.m.

The school was put on immediate lockdown, and kept locked up until the end of the school day. Police searched the school and say there's no way the suspect was still in there, but they don't know how he got out.

Most parents did not here of the incident until they picked up their children. “It scared me,” said parent Mario Long. “They could have grabbed kids and held them hostage, anything. I most definitely think the doors should be locked at all times and it's going to come to that, I think there should be security at all times at every door.”

The school sent home a note to parents explaining what happened and assuring them that their children were safe.
