ABILENE, Texas (AP) â€” Two children were found dead inside the trunk of a car parked in front of their house, police said.

Police were called Saturday afternoon after a teen-ager staying at the house discovered the bodies of 6-year-old Dylan Nagle and his sister, 4-year-old Kelly Boisjolie. A pet kitten also was found dead in the trunk.

They had apparently been in the closed trunk for hours, police said.

Officials were awaiting autopsy results, but believed the deaths were caused by a combination of the near-100-degree heat outside and lack of oxygen.

The children's mother was home when the bodies were found, said Abilene Police Sgt. Mike Perry. He said there was no evidence so far that anyone placed or locked the children in the trunk.

``The whole family is very emotional about the loss of these two children,'' he said.

Child Protective Services also was investigating.
