MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — FedEx Corp. is considering eliminating about 200 information technology jobs, or about 5 percent of the 5,000 people employed in the package delivery company's services division.
After several months of review, ``it is clear that adjustments are necessary to improve our efficiency and productivity,'' Robert B. Carter, executive vice president of FedEx Services, wrote in an e-mail last Friday to division workers.
Information technology employees will be assessed by management during the next two weeks, FedEx spokesman Shirlee Clark said Monday.
If a position is eliminated, the employee will be notified by Sept. 11.
Affected workers would have the opportunity to bid for positions in other areas within FedEx Services or seek employment within other FedEx companies, Clark said.
FedEx has data centers in Memphis, Colorado Springs, Colo., Dallas, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and Akron and Hudson, Ohio.
