SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Golden State Warriors signed second-round draft pick Chris Porter on Monday.

Porter played at Auburn for two seasons and was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in 1999. The Warriors selected him with the 55th overall pick in the draft.

``We believe that Chris is willing to work hard and contribute to this basketball team,'' Warriors General Manager Garry St. Jean said. ``He performed well for our summer league team, and I think that he will bring a lot of energy and athleticism to this club.''

Porter, a forward, averaged 15.3 points and 8.0 rebounds in his two years with Auburn.

Porter was voted second team All-America his junior year and received honorable mention All-America from his senior year.

In February, Porter was declared ineligible and sat out the final eight games of the season when it was discovered that he had received payments from a Las Vegas sports agent and two of his representatives. The NCAA refused to reinstate him and an appeals panel upheld the decision.
