TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A Tulsa woman has been ordered to stand trial on a first-degree murder charge stemming from the death of her infant son. Cindy Gale Miller, 21, is charged in the April 17 death of Kevin Miller, who died 11 days shy of his first birthday.
A medical examiner had ruled the death a homicide and reported that the probable cause of death was asphyxiation by smothering, prosecutor Steve Sewell said. Police Detective Danielle Bishop testified at the preliminary hearing Monday that when Miller was questioned about the death, the woman said "she was holding him and she placed her hand over his nose and mouth" until he quit breathing.
Bishop testified that Miller had said Kevin "was looking at her" and tried to knock her hand away as she held it over his face. Miller indicated that after Kevin stopped breathing, she tried to revive the baby and waited 10 minutes before summoning emergency workers to her residence.
