(Tulsa-AP) -- It has been an open-ended question for more than 80 years: Exactly what will sit atop the capitol once a dome is built. When state leaders put together plans for a dome back in 1917, they left something out -- who or what would sit on top.

Blake Wade will preside over the construction of the Capitol dome now that $20,000,000 has been raised to build it. And Wade says it would make things easier if the decision had been made all those years ago.

Wade says whatever sits atop the dome has to be a symbol of the state. That point has many people pondering the dilemma. There really is no recognizable founding state father.

Wade says there is no rule that there be a statue on the dome. He says whatever is decided should make Oklahomans proud of Oklahoma.
