A recent Catoosa school audit turned up a big problem. In fact, the audit has revealed more than a $100,000 is missing. A woman who used to work for the school district is suspected of embezzling the money.

Catoosa School Superintendent Darrell Gwartney is withholding her name, but did tell The News on Six that the woman resigned shortly after questioning and is trying to make restitution. Gwartney says she's paid back $4,000 so far. "I think everyone in the school system knew this person very well and is shocked by her actions, “ he said. “It was like a 180-degree turn from the normal procedure that you'd expect from this person.”

The woman could eventually face criminal charges. The Catoosa school board is scheduled to review the audit next Monday.
