SEATTLE (AP) — Infielder Jose Offerman, hobbled with a bruised left knee, was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Boston Red Sox.
Offerman initially injured the knee sliding in Toronto in June. He had an MRI for the knee injury in July.
``When you can't move the same way, it's going to affect you at some point,'' Offerman said Monday in Seattle, where the Red Sox beat the Mariners 8-5.
He is hitting only .241 with five home runs and 26 RBIs this year. He is 0-for-8 attempting to steal. Last year, Offerman hit .294 with eight homers, 69 RBIs and 18 stolen bases.
To fill his roster spot, Morgan Burkhart was called up from Pawtucket of the International League. Burkhart, who had been sent down to Pawtucket July 23, flew to Seattle to join the Red Sox on Monday.
