(Norman-AP) -- Sooner football fans enthusiasm for the program is quantifiable. 63,000 season tickets have been sold for the 2000 Sooner football season. That's up nearly 7,000 from 1999 and is the highest number sold since 1988 -- Barry Switzer's last year as the University of Oklahoma's head football coach.

A waiting list for tickets has been established for the first time in years. Season ticket sales increased by almost 9,000 seats from1998 to 1999, the first year of Bob Stoops' tenure at O-U. Season tickets were sold well into September that year. But season ticket sales this year were finished July 19th. The pace was set after O-U's first bowl appearance since 1994.
