TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts will add veteran running back Karim-Abdul Jabbar to back up Edgerrin James, according to published reports.
The Indianapolis Star reported in Friday's edition that al-Jabbar, a third-round draft pick of Miami in 1996 who finished last season with the Cleveland Browns, has agreed to a one-year contract with the team. SportsLine.com first reported the deal Thursday night.
He will replace Fred Lane, who was shot and killed last week in North Carolina.
The Colts made no formal announcement, but Jabbar's mother, Ava Shah, told The Indianapolis Star that her son and the Colts had finalized an agreement.
In four seasons, Jabbar has rushed for 3,413 on 1,003 carries.
