College Football Polls

For those of you that read my recent article about college preview magazines, you know that I love football coverage during the summer.

In that tradition of over-preparedness, I’ve found some early pre-season college football polls on the Internet. As expected, the only area team on the radar in any of these polls is Oklahoma.

At Fansonly.com, Oklahoma ranks 20th. The site is previewing two teams per day for 25 days. They started at number fifty and will work their way up. That means they should get the to the Sooners on Monday, July 31.

Here at kotv.com we’re doing something similar with help from the Dallas Morning News. Everyday, we’ll unveil a new team in DMN’s Top 25. We’ll work up as well, beginning today (Thursday) with 25th ranked Clemson. The Sooners will likely hit sometime next week. When they do, they’ll be displayed prominently on our website. We won’t know the order of the 25 teams until they’re released, otherwise we’d tell you.

If you can’t wait to see what people are saying about Bob Stoops squad, Fansonly.com also has polls from Blue Ribbon Magazines and CNN/SI. There’s also season previews of both the Big 12 and SEC conferences at ESPN.com.

Just For Fans at KOTV.com

Two new interactive opportunities avail themselves for local sports fans. The first is our fan poll. Every Thursday, a new question will be posted on kotv.com’s home page. Fans are invited to vote every week. Results of every poll will be revealed on The Sunday Sports Special every Sunday at 10:20 P.M. Each week’s question will relate to a sports topic of great interest to area fans. This weeks question relates to the retirement of Dallas Cowboy receiver Michael Irvin.

The next opportunity allows viewers to get involved with The Sunday Sports Special. Every week, John, Mike and Ryan will take at least one e-mail from a viewer on-air. The topic can be anything that’s on your mind. Questions for weekly guests or comments about the show are encouraged. To send your mail, go to the sports page and click on John’s Mailbag.

What’s Next

This week on The Sunday Sports Special Ryan Rahal reports live from Dave Campo’s first Dallas Cowboys training camp. Catch Ryan through Wednesday live from Wichita Falls, Texas. Also catch the second half of Mike Wolfe’s exclusive interview with baseball legend Pete Rose on the Sunday show.

Monday on kotv.com, find out what it’s like to be one of the nation’s biggest football recruits. Union wide receiver Jerome Janet is on almost everyone’s blue-chip list, and loving it. I’ll have more on what’s already an exciting year for the senior standout.

Your Website

In an effort to increase kotv.com’s coverage of area sports we’re enlisting your help. If you have an idea on what you’d like to see every week from either high school or college football coverage e-mail me. Also, if you have your hometown teams upcoming football schedule, send that along as well. All comments or questions can be sent to smossman@kotv.com. Feel free to include your name and phone number.
