PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia 76ers signed guard Speedy Claxton and swingman Mark Karcher to contracts Thursday.

The 5-foot-11 Claxton was a four-year starter at Hofstra University and was the 20th overall selection in the first round of the NBA draft.

He scored 2,015 points, had 660 assists and shot 46.8 percent from the field in college and in his senior year led the Flying Dutchmen to the NCAA tournament.

The 6-foot-5 Karcher, selected 48th overall by the Sixers in the second round of the draft, led Temple in scoring as a junior with 15.8 points a game, was second in steals with 1.8 per game and fourth in rebounding with 4.6 per game. He connected on 82 of 235 three-point attempts last season to help the Owls to the Atlantic 10 championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament.
