ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Two Navy football players were charged Monday with raping a female midshipman at an off-campus party.

Cordrea Brittingham and Arion Keith Williams, both were charged with second-degree rape, a felony punishable by up 30 years in prison, and second-degree sex offense. Williams was also charged with third-degree sex offense.

Brittingham, a running back, and Williams, a cornerback, were both sophomores last season.

The alleged assault occurred at a party in Arnold late Thursday or early Friday.

The victim said she had become intoxicated at the party and passed out in one of the bedrooms. When she awoke, she found herself being assaulted, police said in a statement. She pushed the two men away and they left the home.

Police were alerted at 2:02 a.m. Friday by the North Arundel Hospital in Glen Burnie of the reported rape.

Anne Arundel County Police took custody of the two midshipmen Monday afternoon, said Officer Tom O'Connor. They were turned over to the county's criminal investigation unit in Crownsville by Naval Intelligence, O'Connor said.

Anne Arundel County Police worked with the Navy Criminal Investigative Service, but had primary jurisdiction in investigating the case.

Academy spokesman Cmdr. Mike Brady could not immediately be reached for comment on the charges.
