(Muskogee-AP) -- A Muskogee prosecutor is expressing concern that a twice-convicted rapist could someday be freed from prison despite receiving a life sentence.
Forty-one-year-old Jerry Leon McManus was sentenced yesterday to ten concurrent life sentences for kidnapping and raping his ex-girlfriend two years ago. McManus was convicted for the crimes and eight other counts in a trial that ended last week.
Prosecutors had asked the judge to give McManus consecutive life terms on each count, which they say would have kept him in prison until his death.
Because of the judge's decision, McManus will serve one life term with the possibility of parole. But before he begins serving that sentence, McManus will have to serve out a 20-year suspended sentence for rape and attempted jail escape counts. That sentence was revoked earlier this year.
