(Lawton-AP) -- There's good news and bad news for the University of Oklahoma athletic department.
For the first time in more than ten years, O-U President David Boren says the athletic department looks to coming in under budget. But that doesn't erase as much as eight (m) million dollars O-U says the department still owes it.
Boren says the department's budget report isn't due until next month, but that department spending looks to be $100,000 under what was projected. But university regents yesterday also had to approve a line of credit for the athletic department to repay its debt.
O-U Athletic Director Joe Castiglione is largely credited with cutting down the department's spending. In the two years he's worked at the school, Castiglione says he's cut 20 to 25 positions at the department and looked for new ways to generate revenue.
