(Tulsa-AP) -- Tulsa Public Schools' are ready to begin construction on 170 miles of fiber optic cable that will link the schools 20-thousand computers.

School officials say the new system will allow a single teacher to hold class simultaneously in multiple schools.

The system is designed to accommodate whatever communications advances might come in the next 25 years. It will cost 16-point-four (m) million dollars.

The project is being funded by six (m) million dollars in bond funds and ten-point-five (m) million in financing being paid out in amounts of one-point-five (m) million over ten years.

The district says the structured deal is expected to save them about 500 thousand dollars per year over current network fees.
