When Rusty Knowles heard his baby girl had been shot at the Fort Gibson middle school, he turned to what he knew best, God.

Knowles told the congregation of the Verdigris First Assembly of God Church Sunday morning, how that horrifying experience strengthened his family and his faith.

It was a very emotional Father's Day message.

Rusty Knowles told the Verdigris congregation, he pleaded for God's help when he found out that the young gunman had hit his 12-year-old, daughter.

Witnesses identified the shooter, as 13-year-old Seth Trickey.

He injured five of his Fort Gibson Middle School classmates last December, including Rusty Knowles' daughter, Savannah, who was struck in the face.

She's improved, but is tired of the attention.

Rusty Knowles' parents go to the Verdigris church. His message was families must turn to God.

He stressed to fathers that the shooting made him evaluate what is important-God, his wife, children and family.

He also says God helped him immediately forgive the shooter, even on the way to the hospital.

“So God gave me peace about that on the way to Tulsa, not even knowing whether she was going to make it. I knew I had to have peace and he gave it to me. To this day, I do not have any hard feelings toward the boy or his parents," says Knowles.

Knowles says he wants Seth Trickey to become an asset to society. But doesn't feel he should be able to return to the school.

Trickey is being treated through the office of juvenile affairs after a judge found him guilty of six counts of shooting with intent to kill.
