(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Racial profiling by law officers will soon officially be illegal in Oklahoma.

Governor Keating signed a bill Monday prohibiting the controversial tactic in which citizens are targeted by police because of their race.

Keating says the state has long had a policy against such profiling, but that making a law about the issue is important.

Under the law, complaints of racial profiling will be submitted to the state Human Rights Commission and the district attorney of the county in which the alleged incident occurred.
