(Supreme Court-AP) - Grandparents have come out on the losing end of a battle over their rights to visit their grandkids against parents' wishes. The U-S Supreme Court has struck down a law that gave grandparents broad rights to seek court-ordered visitation. The case involved a Washington state that allowed "any person" to win a court-ordered right to see a child when it was found to be in the youngster's best interest. But the justices ruled today that as long as a parent adequately cares for his or her children, there's usually no reason for the state to get involved. The vote was 6 to 3, but spawned six separate opinions. Some 60 million Americans are grandparents -- including six of the high court's members. All 50 states have grandparent-visitation laws but few are as expansive as Washington's.
