BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana basketball player Tom Coverdale was arrested on a charge of illegal consumption of alcohol after police responded to a report of a bar dispute.
Police were called to the Bluebird Nightclub early Thursday on a report that Coverdale, 20, had battered another person inside the bar.
Coverdale and another 20-year-old man left the club and ran from the area, but officer Fritz Lantzer stopped them a short distance away. Lantzer determined no battery had occurred, but he smelled alcohol on the breath of both men and cited them for illegal consumption.
Both were booked into the Monroe County Jail. They were later released on their own recognizance.
Coverdale, the 1998 Indiana Mr. Basketball, completed his freshman season with the Hoosiers this year.
