Text of the letter from Peter B. Clark, deputy chief of the U.S. Justice Department's fraud section, to lawyers for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, regarding the Olympic bribery scandal:

Please be advised that, based upon the evidence currently available to us, we have no present intention of seeking the indictment of the Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee (SLOC) for its actions to influence members of the International Olympic Committee to select Salt Lake City as the venue for either the 1998 or 2002 Winter Olympic Games. If, in the future, we receive additional evidence regarding SLOC, this determination may be reconsidered in light of such evidence.

Our determination not to prosecute has been made with respect only to SLOC, the corporate entity, and is not intended to apply to any present or former officer or employee of SLOC, or to any other entity. As you know, as a matter of policy, we cannot make any representation with respect to any civil claims that any department or agency of the United States government may have against SLOC for the above-described actions.

We appreciate the cooperation that SLOC has provided to us thus far, and look forward to your client's continued cooperation in this matter.
