Golf Digest is taking a swing at a spinoff for women. Its publisher, The New York Times Company Magazine Group, says the quarterly Golf Digest Woman is "targeted at the surging market of sophisticated boomer women with a passion for golf." The first issue (April) features Fox News anchor Paula Zahn on the cover and includes articles such as "Little White Lies" that golf salespeople use to sell merchandise to women.

GIVING MORE

Women with jobs outside the home still find time to do volunteer work, research shows. In fact, those who work part time volunteer the most, and those who work more than a 40-hour week still volunteer more than women who aren't in the labor force, data show. The conclusions are based on an analysis of a survey on work and volunteering that has followed two groups of women since the late 1960s. The findings come from Duke University professor John Wilson and Mark Music, who's on the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin.

HIT PARADE

The Ladies of Rylstone Calendar, begun as a joke among some British women of a certain age, has become a huge hit. Nearly a year after the calendar debuted, featuring the women in discreet nude poses, 88,000 copies have been sold and more than a half million dollars raised for leukemia research. Workman Publishing is now releasing the North American version, which runs from June 1 to May 31, 2001. The calendar is sold at bookstores or through the Leukemia Research Foundation at 847-424-0600 or www.leukemia-research.org. In addition, thousands of women have written to say that the calendar has helped them feel better about how they look.
