(Oklahoma City-AP) -- House Republicans introduced a new car tag proposal today after Governor Keating issued a veto of a Democrat-sponsored bill.
The Republicans say the new tag reform plan would reduce tag costs by $110 million over three years.
Keating announced his veto decision late yesterday after days of wrestling with what he called "a very seductive Democrat-sponsored bill" that would have reduced tag costs of current vehicle owners.
The Republican governor says he concluded that the bill had many laudable features such as a maximum $85 car tag fee. But he says it's unfair to used-car buyers.
Keating says the Democrat-sponsored bill would increase taxes b ymore than $80 million on thousands of used-car buyers.
