Cops Accused in Lambeau Field Attack

MILWAUKEE (AP) â€” The son of a former Green Bay Packers assistant coach has filed a lawsuit, accusing two police officers at Lambeau Field of beating him when he presented credentials to go on the field.

Beau Ortmayer seeks $5 million in damages. He contends the police used excessive force and violated his civil rights following the Green Bay-Seattle game Nov. 1.

Ortmayer said he was left with a concussion, broken nose, injured eye and facial cuts and bruises. The suit also says he was denied medical attention at the police department.

Named as defendants were the city of Green Bay and police officers William Galvin and Todd Leider.

Lawyer Robert Haney said Ortmayer was accompanied by two young women and had wanted to go on the field to take pictures. He said his 19-year-old client had been drinking but was not drunk.

According to the lawsuit, Ortmayer obtained passes to the field from his father, C. Stephen Ortmayer, then special teams coach.

The younger Ortmayer was stopped by Galvin and Leider as he attempted to use the passes. The lawsuit said the officers seized the credentials, grabbed Ortmayer by the throat and ``struck, beat, assaulted and smashed'' him to the ground.

Green Bay City Attorney Tim Kelley said Tuesday the city had not yet been served with the suit and he declined comment.

``Once we are served, the matter is referred to our insurance carrier,'' Kelley said.
