(Quapaw-AP) -- One Oklahoman wants people across the country to see the image of Olympic great Jim Thorpe when they pick up their box of Wheaties.

Anna McKibben of Quapaw says its a miscarriage of history tha tThorpe has never made it onto the front of a box of the General Mills cereal. The cereal has repeatedly honored athletes.

McKibben first had the idea in 1998, but she hesitated because she thought people would think Thorpe was out of fashion.

She changed her mind after Thorpe was named athlete of the century in a viewer poll on ABC.

A General Mills executive isn't offering encouragement. Greg Zimprich says legends boxes have been done in the past but none are upcoming.
