FAR HILLS, N.J. (AP) — For computer-literate golfers, there's a new approach shot to USGA championships this year — entry applications filed online.

The U.S. Golf Association on Friday said it will start taking entry applications for 10 of its national championships via its Web site,, provided entries for that event have not closed.

Among the events qualified golfers can enter online include the U.S. Senior Open, the U.S. Women's Open, the U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Women's Amateur.

Online applications for the U.S. Open, the Junior Amateur and the Girls' Junior Championships will not be available. Applications for the junior championships require parental consent and cannot be accepted on line.

Confirmation of online applications will be acknowledged by mail.

The USGA received nearly 40,000 entries for its 13 national championships in 1999, with record numbers for five championships.
