A $1 million research chair at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine will be named honoring the brother of former New York Yankees great Bobby Murcer.

The DeWayne Murcer Endowed Research Chair in Hematology/Oncology will provide funding for a pediatric cancer researcher at the institute.

Part of the funding for the chair will be raised through the American Cancer Society's annual Men's Golf Championship, which hMurcer has co-sponsored for the past ten years. A $250,000 pledge from the tournament will be matched by Children's Medical Research Institute and the $500,000 will be matched by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
