FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Winston Bennett, a former University of Kentucky star who played and coached in the NBA, was introduced Tuesday as the new basketball coach at Kentucky State University.
Bennett inherits a Division II Thorobreds team that was 13-14 last year. Former coach Thomas Snowden's contract was not renewed.
After playing for Kentucky from 1983-88, Bennett was a third-round draft pick in 1988 by the Cleveland Cavaliers. In 1990, he went to Miami, where he retired in 1992 because of a knee injury.
Bennett was an assistant coach to Rick Pitino with the Boston Celtics before moving back to Lexington, where he has been working in real estate and as a scout for the Celtics.
