A tornado that struck Stroud, May third of last year, tore away the city's economic base in just seconds. The twister wiped away more than three-hundred jobs when it destroyed the three largest employers in town including the Tanger Outlet Mall.
City leaders say the future is starting to look brighter. The city signed a contract to begin repairing the hospital an industrial park is growing and a new manufacturing company hopes to hire more than 3-hundred workers.
“I think when it is all said and down, give it some time and Stroud will bounce back. We will be bigger, better and stronger than it ever was,†says City Manager Earl Burson.
City leaders also are watching closely on who buys the land that Tanger is trying to sell.
