(Oklahoma City-AP) -- State legislators and other officials used numbers to illustrate the importance of this year's census count to
Oklahoma.

State Senator Angela Monson says the state lost out on 13-point-eight (m) million dollars in federal money because 57-thousand residents were uncounted in the nationwide census 10
years ago. Officials say that number may have risen to 60 million dollars.

Census officials say transportation funds were the most affected by the 1990 undercount, followed by money for children and the
elderly.

Thousands of census takers fanned out across the state today to count individuals who didn't return census forms mailed to their homes.

Oklahoma's census form return rate was 62 percent, well below the 68 percent rate that census officials had hoped for.
