STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma State assistant head coach Tommy Kaiser has announced he is leaving the football staff this spring.

Kaiser has been at Oklahoma State since 1994. He was assistant head coach the past two years, and also has coached tight ends and special teams.

"This was a very difficult and a very personal decision," Kaiser said Tuesday. "I just felt the need to back away from coaching for a while."

Kaiser came to OSU from Houston, where he had coached from 1987 to 1993.

"Tommy Kaiser has been an extremely valuable part of the Oklahoma State football program for the past six years," coach Bob Simmons said. "He has done an outstanding job as a position coac hand also in a leadership role as assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator. He has served Oklahoma State football with class."

Kaiser was a two-year letterman at the University of Houston, where he also played baseball. He coached at four high schools in Texas before becoming a college coach.
