Some old time movie prices are coming back to life in Tulsa. Another theater in town recently dropped it's price to a buck a movie making Tulsa a booming movie market.
Movie goers are calling Tulsa a movie haven. In just the last three years, four new theaters with stadium seating have surged into town.
Cinemark opened the latest one just last month, which includes an Imax theater. In return, Cinemark turned it's Movies 8, located near the Woodland Hills mall, to a second run theater. All the movies there are only a buck. Tulsa, now, has at least three theaters charging just a buck to a buck-seventy-five.
"I think the market is good for it. It didn't have as many discount theaters as it should have had in it. It's cost efficient, especially when we have a large group. It's cheaper for us," says one movie manager.
Managers say they can charge such a small fee, because second run movies are much cheaper for them to rent and people are still buying popcorn, pop and other snacks.
Even the folks who love seeing the blockbusters right when they come out, told us, the cheaper theaters mean they can afford to see even more movies.
