The Tulsa Zoo has a new addition that will cut down on pollution. The zoo introduced the pair as part of its celebration of Earth Day.
Even Zoo director, Larry Nunley pulled out his guitar for the big bash. And Zoo volunteers gave away gifts. On this 30th anniversary of earth day, kids traveled through the Zoo's environmental expo, learning how to make their mark on the world. Some, like Hunter Lewis, and his brother, Corbeun even made a pledge.
"I'm promising that I'm keeping the world clean," says Corbeun.
"Because it will make the world a better place," says Hunter.
The zoo introduced how it's going to cut-down on pollution by introducing it's five new electric powered tricycles. But the biggest eye-catcher was the electric powered trucks. The two electric Ford Rangers caught the eyes and ears of many of the adults. And the trucks get 50 to 60 miles on a full charge.
Zoo workers will use them to do their daily duties and to run errands around town. This unveiling makes Tulsa the first zoo in the country to use electric trucks.
"The zoo really took hold of this, really accepted the technology fairly readily and jumped right into it."
Because the zoo's goal is to promote a better life for all. Local businesses and zoo volunteers are paying for the electric trucks. Zoo workers will keep them filled up at four charging stations at the zoo.
