A two-inch hole torn in the wing of an American Airlines jet prompted an emergency landing Tuesday at Tulsa International Airport.
American spokesman John Hotard says Flight 1123 was enroute from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Denver.
The jet made a routine landing with 91 people on board after being diverted to Tulsa.
Hotard says a portion of the slat, which slides over the leading edge of the Boeing 757's wing on takeoff and landing, apparently punctured the wing material on takeoff.
He didn't know how or when the pilot became aware of the hole, but said there was no cockpit alarm. Passengers have said a fellow passenger noticed material protruding from the wing and alerted flight attendants who relayed the information to the pilot.
The jet was about one hour into the flight when it diverted.
Passengers say they felt the plane vibrating before the safe landing in Tulsa. They were booked on another flight to Denver.
