WASHINGTON (AP) -- Some 152,000 faulty baby wipe warmers are facing federal recall because they may pose an electric shock risk.
The device, an electric appliance that warms baby wipes, may have cracks in the interior tub that allow water to come in contact with electrical components.
Hong Kong-based Advance Thermo Control, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling warmers distributed by Prince Lionheart Inc., of Santa Maria, Calif.
The recall involves Prince Lionheart Baby Wipe Warmers with the style number 0224 and date codes 9803 and 9901 with cracked tubs. The warmers are white plastic boxes with an orange light on the front that indicates whether it is on or off.
The style number and date code can be found on the bottom of the units, along with the words "Santa Maria, CA USA" and "MADE IN CHINA." The words "PRINCE LIONHEART" can be found on the lid.
Toy, department and baby specialty stores nationwide, as well as mail order catalogues, sold the warmers from February 1998 through December 1999 for about $25 each.
Consumers should immediately stop using the warmers, remove the wipes, and check to see if the interior tub is cracked. If it is, they should call ATC at (888) 843-8718 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for information on receiving a free replacement unit.
If the tub is not cracked, the unit is not part of the recall, and consumers can continue to use it. ------ On the Net: Consumer Product Safety Commission: http://www.cpsc.gov
