(Detroit-AP) -- The Detroit Lions and Barry Sanders continue to drift apart. Now the Lions are pressuring the former Oklahoma State running back to immediately repay a portion of his 1997 signing bonus.
Sanders left the team two years into a six-year contract and an arbitrator ruled Sanders must repay one-sixth of his eleven million dollar signing bonus for each year he doesn't play.
Sanders' agent is David Ware. He says his client and the Lions want it clarified when exactly Sanders must repay the money. The Lions wanted this year's 1.83 million dollars earlier this week, citing language in the ruling that says repayment is due ten days after the club announces the starting date of training camp. Ware is questioning that.
