(Sallisaw-AP) -- An eastern Oklahoma congressional candidate is changing a planned gun giveaway.

Mark Detro says today that instead of seeking donations for a chance to win guns, he'll give the guns away with other door prizes at a fund-raising banquet in June.

Detro is seeking the Republican nomination in the Second District. He says he decided to change his plan for giving away guns to avoid running afoul of state gambling laws.

A state Attorney General's Office spokesman said Thursday that it's illegal to hold a raffle or lottery where money must be given to qualify for a prize. Detro says he still plans to use the banquet to call attention to the right to bear arms.
