(Capitol Hill-AP) -- The House has given final approval to a bill raising the minimum wage by a dollar over two years.
The vote was 282 to 143 to raise the minimum wage to six dollars and 15 cents an hour.
Almost 80 Republicans joined with Democrats to pass the measure.
It will be combined with a measure that cuts taxes by 122 (b) billion dollars. Most of the cuts are in estate taxes.
The combined measure faces a veto threat from President Clinton.
He believes the tax relief disproportionately benefits the wealthy.
But before that, the House and Senate will have to work out differences.
The Senate approved a one-dollar increase in the minimum wage over three years, as opposed to two.
