TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) -- A man convicted of shooting his nephew in the back of the head in 1997 will be on probation for the next 40 years. Kevin Swepston received the probation after pleading no contest to first-degree manslaughter in the May 1997 death of 19-year-old Jeremy Swepston near Lake Tenkiller.
Swepston also must complete drug-treatment and anger-management courses, District Judge Mike Norman ordered.
The defense argued that Swepston, 36, was defending another relative that was in a fight with the victim. Jeremy Swepston's mother and grandmother found his body three days later in an illegal trash dump.
