Cassity named defensive coordinator

(Stillwater-AP) -- Oklahoma State coach Bob Simmons named Mike Cassity as defensive coordinator today. Cassity replaces Rob Ryanwho resigned to join the New England Patriots last week.

Cassity was co-defensive coordinator last year for the Cowboys. He was defensive coordinator at Baylor for two years and was defensive coordinator at Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, East Carolina, Northeast Louisiana and Western Kentucky. He also spent two seasons at Wisconsin.

Cassity says he looks forward to building on what has already been accomplished. He says the defenses have been nationally ranked the last three years and the team will work hard to improve on that.

Cassity's secondary finished last year with 13 interceptions, Six defensive backs combined for 30 pass deflections.
