(Frankfurt, Germany-AP) -- Call it "The Muppets take Munich."

German-based media company E-M-T-V and Merchandising A-G is buying the Jim Henson Company for 680 (m) million dollars in cash
and stock.

The deal means E-M-T-V will have ownership of some of the world's best-loved children's shows, including "Sesame Street" and "The Muppet Show."

The firm will also have exclusive rights to all of the Muppet characters, including Kermit, Miss Piggy and Bert and Ernie.

Other Henson company products include toys like the Tickle Me Elmo doll and Muppet books sold in 45 countries.

The Jim Henson Company had been run by his son and daughter since Henson's death in 1990.
