A parent volunteering at a local school district is accused of improperly touching some of the girls in class. The man worked Wednesday at Mannford Junior High.
The forty year old man was answering a call for volunteers from Mannford's P-T-A, because several of school’s teachers were at the education rally in Oklahoma City. The parent spent all day Wednesday teaching sixth, seventh and eighth graders. That evening, four of the girls told police they felt uncomfortable when the fill-in teacher wrapped his arm around them while they were studying at their desks.
Police now say 14 girls have come forward, saying they felt the man inappropriately touched them. One seventh grader told police the man touched her backside when she was at the chalkboard. “She felt it was inappropriate and turned around and said, 'hey,’ said Mannford police chief Bud Reed. “According to the witness, he then reached out and touched her hand and spoke inappropriate words like ‘honey’ and ‘sweetheart.’"
Authorities believe it may have been the man's first time in teaching in a classroom. The man is being held in the Creek County jail on a complaint of a lewd and indecent act with a child. Prosecutors have not filed any charges. Police say that according to state and national crime databases, the man does not have a criminal record.
